PRODUCTIVITY will be under the spotlight at the Livestock and Rural Transport Association of Western Australia’s (LRTAWA) 37th annual conference on Bunbury on Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1, 2017.
The conference will highlight WA company owners’ calls for productivity to assume greater prominence in decision making at government level by cutting red tape and responding to innovation.
The association believes vehicle manufacturers are designing safer and more efficient equipment and at the same time infrastructure and transport policy is not keeping up.
Heading into an uncertain season in WA and battling a lagging economy, LRTWWA members say it is more important than ever for policy-makers to focus on getting agricultural inputs and products along the supply chain as fast and as cost-effectively as possible.
It is commonly accepted that targeted investment in transport infrastructure not only improves transport productivity but also has a positive effect on other industries.
The free Bunbury Tyrepower Drive Day at Picton will be a feature of the conference and will focus on the future in keeping with the theme.
All major truck manufacturers will have equipment on display, along with a range of local trades.
It will be a good chance for local transporters to test drive and view the latest equipment and network with other transporters.
The conference has traditionally been a mix of serious discussion and socialising.
Officers from the new Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development will talk about how to identify emergency animal diseases and Main Roads WA will provide an update on significant road network issues.
Pascal Felix from international firm WSP will talk about developing a higher productivity freight and logistics system.
The keynote speaker is Craig Rispin, a business futurist and innovation expert who helps companies profit from emerging businesses, people and technology trends.
