Baitul Mukarram National Mosque’s Senior Imam Maulana Mohammad Mizanur Rahman will conduct the prayers at the ground near the Supreme Court.

President Md Abdul Hamid, judges, cabinet members, MPs and politicians, are expected to join regular worshippers at the congregation.

Five congregations will also be held separately at Baitul Mukarram at 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am and 11am on the Eid day, the Islamic Foundation said.

Worshippers in Dhaka should not bring anything with them to the congregation except their prayer mats, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police chief Md Asaduzzaman Miah.

In the port city of Chittagong, worshippers can bring umbrellas with their mats.

Last year, a bomb and machete attack by terrorists left four including policemen dead at a checkpoint guarding the Sholakia congregation, Bangladesh's largest Eid prayer gathering held in Kishoreganj.

The prayers continued despite the attack which came barely a week after gunmen launched a foreigner-aimed attack on Gulshan's Holey Artisan Bakery, leaving 22 dead.

Law enforcers have planned the strictest security for the Sholakia congregation to be led by Moulana Farid Uddin Masud starting at 10am.

But the 9am congregation at Dinajpur's Gor-e-Shahid might exceed Sholakia this year as authorities made arrangement for 500,000 to pray in the ground. The Sholakia ground and its surrounding areas usually host nearly 300,000 worshippers.

Muslims in Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, the festival marking the end of Ramadan, if the Shawwal moon is sighted in the evening.

Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, is celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday with most other Gulf Arab states like Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Oman however will celebrate Eid on Monday.
