The CNN’s decision to retract a story that connected a member of President Donald Trump’s transition team to ongoing Russia investigations last week has been the butt of jokes for the network’s critics on social media and even mainstream media.
President Trump would not let a golden opportunity to attack his favorite media target, calling it “fake news” and questioned for publishing “phony stories.”
The controversial story was published late last week and it reported that the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating the head of a Russian investment fund who Anthony Scaramucci, a financier and high-profile member of Trump’s transition team met before the inauguration. The story also reported that the Senate committee was looking into whether or not Scaramucci had suggested that sanctions against Russia might soon be lifted.
Trump tweeted Tuesday; “Wow, CNN had to retract big story on “Russia,” with 3 employees forced to resign. What about all the other phony stories they do? FAKE NEWS!”

In contrast to President Trump’s obvious disapproval and bias, Scaramucci himself was more understanding and said he accepted CNN’s apology.
He also tweeted ;”CNN did the right thing. Classy move. Apology accepted. Everyone makes mistakes. Moving on,”
