Satellite pictures early this morning showed the skies over West and North-West India awash with clouds, even as the monsoon penetrated the international border to enter Pakistan.

The Pakistan Met Department has announced that the monsoon currents have registered their presence in that country bordering India.

Bank of clouds

A bank of intense clouds was waiting outside the Gujarat coast and had grown to a size as big as this western state of India itself, with Porbandar and Bhuj in direct line of sight.

Karachi and Hyderabad in Pakistan were also being threatened by these massive clouds rising over the North Arabian Sea.

Intense clouds hovered above New Delhi, Saharanpur (West Uttar Pradesh), Chandigarh, and Jammu in India and spilled across the border into Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan in Pakistan.

Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal are also under the thick cloud cover as the monsoon appeared to entrench further over North-West India this morning.

Other places under cover in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are Meerut, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Agra, Morena, Gwalior, Jhansi, Tikamgarh, Sagar, Mandla, Chhindwara, and Bhilai.

East Coast active

Meanwhile, massive monsoon clouds have once again started lining up the East Coast of India, signalling to the possibility of fresh churn in the Bay of Bengal.

The clouding extended all the way from the Odisha coast to Andhra Pradesh and was visible over Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Brahmapur, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Narasapuram.

A monsoon-aiding circulation has been parked over North Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand over the past couple of days, but some models see the Bay going into a hum over the next couple of days.

India Met Department has said that favourable conditions are developing for further advance of monsoon over most of the rest of the country (mainly to the North) over the next three days.

Its northern limit had reached South Rajasthan early this year, and passed through Barmer, Chittorgarh, Guna, Satna, Siddhi and Patna cutting across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar last night.
