PATNA: Miscreants torched two police vehicles on Wednesday after young businessman Rashid Ahmed (25) was shot dead at Mahauriya village under Hussainganj police station area in Siwan district on Tuesday night.
Siwan SP Saurabh Kumar Sah said Rashid was sleeping on the terrace of his two-storey house in the village when criminals scaled the building and shot Rashid many times.
“While the police team was at Rashid’s house, miscreants torched the police vehicles parked outside the village.
They used inflammable liquid after overpowering the drivers,” the SP said and added, “One vehicle was of Hussainganj police station while another was of Mufassil circle inspector.”
He said police reinforcement was sent to the village and the situation was under control.
“Rashid actively helped witnesses in deposing before the court in the case of murder of one Mohammad Nehal, who was killed in February this year under Town police station area of Siwan,” the SP said, adding the deceased was into furniture business and was planning to take a bike dealership in Siwan.
Sah said Rashid’s family members woke up after hearing the gunshots and rushed him to a private hospital where he was declared dead. He also said the name of notorious criminal Vishwakarma Bind has cropped up in the murder case.

The SP said Bind is lodged in Gopalganj district jail, but police received information that he was operating his gang even from behind the bars.
“Several raids were conducted inside the jail premises to check the activities of Bind, but nothing was recovered from his possession,” the SP added.
Police sources said at least four empty cartridges of different firearms were recovered from the terrace and family members told police that one Bade Miyan, a close associate of Bind, was seen running with a few others. He said Bind was also accused in Nehal’s murder.
The SP said the body of Rashid was handed over to his family after the post mortem and his last rites were performed. He said raids were on to arrest the suspects.
