Top Billing: Full Monty, Godspell and Tempest debut on the Annapolis stage

Annapolis Summer Garden Theater debuted its production of “The Full Monty” Thursday, but this is the opening weekend of this screen to stage adaptation explores what men will do for fame and money. The show carries an “R” rating for mature language and content, plus a strong advisory suggesting parental discretion in allowing children to see the show.

The show runs at 143 Compromise St. in Annapolis Thursdays through Sundays plus Wednesday July 19, all at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are and are available at summergarden.com

Infinity Theatre re-imagines Godspell

Stephen Schwartz is known to many modern fans of theater as the creator of the words and music to “Wicked.” But long before that show became a part of the national dialogue, he made a Broadway splash with “Godspell” in 1971.

In Infinity Theatre’s revival of this classic show, a television sketch comedy show welcomes the controversial figure of Jesus Christ as host, in spite of the protest of the network. The company of young comedians delivers a range of hysterical impressions and characters, while singing and dancing along with the teachings of Jesus.

Laughs and drafts

Basile, an Emmy nominated comedian who has more than 100 television appearances to his credit, comes to Rams Head On Stage Saturday for the “Laughs & Drafts” Comedy Series.

The voice of Universal Studios Bullwinkle J. Moose and Syndicated voice of the “God Father Of Soul James Brown,” the comedian is touring with his “Dysfunctionally Yours” show, which starts at 8 p.m. at 33 West St. in Annapolis. $20. ramsheadonstage.com

Lacrosse and music

If you’re going to go to one Chesapeake Bayhawks game this summer, Sunday just might be the right one to see.

The pro lacrosse team will again host their annual patriotic celebration as part of their home game at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, featuring Hometown Hero and Military Appreciation Night when they face-off against the Rochester Rattlers.

The evening will feature several special events including a live on-field concert with country singer Craig Campbell, who will be singing his latest Single “Outskirts of Heavan.” Campbell has had seven singles on the country chart, and in 2013 released Never Regret in 2013.

The concert will conclude with the what organizers are boasting will be the largest fireworks show in the area, quite a statement given the July 4th shows coming up Tuesday in Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington, D.C..

Pre-game events will feature the a First Responders Pre-Game Lacrosse Scrimmage, a game among area firefighters and other first responders. The concert starts at 8:30, followed by the fireworks at 9:30.

Set sail with Oyster Boys

Who better to sail the Chesapeake Bay with for sunset than Annapolis favorite, the Eastport Oyster Boys?

The Schooner Woodwind will depart at 6:30 Thursday for a two-hour cruise and serenade with the musical ambassadors of the Chesapeake Bay.

Return of the Bacon Brothers

Actor Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael bring their popular band The Bacon Brothers back to Annapolis for four shows Friday and Saturday.

The brothers have been evolving from an actor’s side gig in 1995 to a duo known for writing its own songs and playing great music. Shows at 33 West St. start at 6:30 and 9:30 both nights. Tickets are $49.50 and are available at ramsheadonstage.com.

Tempest under the stars

Annapolis Shakespeare Company’s annual production in the gardens of the Charles Carroll House returns Friday with a the Tempest, considered one of Shakespeare’s greatest works.

The Tempest tells the story of Prospero, an exiled duke who lives as the master of an enchanted isle where fantastical creatures, mystery, music and romance abound. A shipwreck delivers Prospero’s enemies to the island, and the plot thickens when his beloved daughter falls for the enemy’s son.

Performances run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. through July 23. The Charles Carroll House is located at 107 Duke of Gloucester St. in Annapolis. Tickets are $25-$60 for children’s seating on the lawn to $50 for VIP seating, and are available at annapolisshakespeare.org
