7 killed in road mishap in UP's Pratapgarh

In a tragic incident, seven persons, including four members of a family, were killed when the car carrying them collided head on with a speeding truck near Mundikpur village on Allahabad-Lucknow highway under Manikpur police station of Pratapgarh district on Tuesday.

The police have seized the truck and registered a case under sections 279, 304 and 427 of the IPC.
ALLAHABAD: In a tragic incident, seven persons, including four members of a family, were killed when the car carrying them collided head on with a speeding truck near Mundikpur village on Allahabad-Lucknow highway under Manikpur police station of Pratapgarh district on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Sumit Mishra (23) , his wife Puja Mishra (22), their son Krishna (one year) and mother Saroj Mishra (45), all residents of Malahi Tola (Thakurganj- Lucknow), Mohini Awasthi (40) of Daulatganj (Lucknow), Phoolmati alias Ram Pyari of Daulatganj ( Lucknow) and Sujit Pandey ( 24) of Thakurganj (Lucknow).

Station officer of Manikpur police station told TOI that six persons died on the spot while one succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.
He further added that the incident took place at around 6:45am when Sumit Mishra along with his family members and others were returning to Lucknow after offering prayers to Lord Shiva in Varanasi.
Police, meanwhile, said the sound of collision between was so strong that the front portion of the car got badly damaged. Hearing the sound of collision, the villagers rushed towards the spot for rescue operation and found six persons dead on spot.
The locals, however, called up police and helped in rescue operations. The truck driver managed to escape from the scene. The police have seized the truck and registered a case under sections 279, 304 and 427 of the IPC.
