A man residing in Tirupur got the shock of his life when he got a Rs 20 note instead of Rs 2000 after withdrawing money from an Axis bank ATM.

Kalidas was in need of cash for his medical treatment and had visited the AXIS bank ATM situated at Souripalayam to withdraw the money.

He withdrew Rs 30,000 from his father's account and then another Rs 10,000 from his own account. Before leaving, he counted the money and that's when he saw the Rs 20 note in place of a Rs 2000 note.

Kalidas immediately checked the earlier withdrawals and found out that the machine had replaced four notes of Rs 2000 with Rs 20 notes.

"Every time I've made a withdrawal of Rs 10,000, the machine gave me 4 notes of Rs 2000 and a fifth note of Rs 20," he said.

Kalidas immediately called the bank and made a complain but even after 3 hours, nobody responded. He at once took a video of how the ATM was releasing Rs 8,020 while withdrawing Rs 10,000, and out of frustration brought the shutter of the ATM kiosk down.

"If a private bank is so lethargic that such a thing happens and still they are not in a hurry to rectify it, they can surely go to the level of replacing the good money with counterfeit and that's why I closed the ATM," he said.

Kalidas has still not got any response from the bank, though he got messages on his phone stating he withdrew Rs 10,000 when in fact he received only Rs 8,020.
