Gutka seized in raids, illegal sale of  chewing tobacco to be checked

GUNTUR: Guntur rural police seized gutka, khaini and other banned chewing tobacco products after conducting raids on pan shops and tobacco product dealers in Bapatla, Repalle, Tenali, Chilakaluripet, Gurazala, Macherla, Piduguralla and other parts of the district on Friday.

The police seized gutka packets worth Rs 1 lakh in Old Amaravati. A police team led by Circle Inspector T Muralikrishna, arrested AV Appa Rao, a wholesaler, for selling gutka illegally. Several pan shop owners were also arrested during the raids for selling banned chewing tobacco products.

Guntur rural SP Ch V Appala Naidu said the police would intensify the raids to strictly enforce a ban on the sale of chewing tobacco products. 

Canteens at railway stations raided
Eluru:
The CBI and Railway Vigilance teams raided canteens at Eluru, Tadepalligudem and Nidadavole railway stations on Friday following complaints about the sale of poor quality food. A team led by CBI and Railway Vigilance officials K Venkateswara Rao, IJBS Rao and Srinivas, raided the canteen at the Eluru station.
