HYDERABAD/KHAMMAM: The drizzle that started on Sunday night in the city turned into a downpour on Monday paralysing normal life.By afternoon, several parts of the city were inundated. The rains caused waterlogging in many areas leading to massive traffic jams. Commuters had a tough time due to damaged roads and traffic snarls. According to met department officials, 8.2 mm rainfall was recorded in Hyderabad city.
Meanwhile, several districts of Telangana, particularly erstwhile Khammam district received the first bountiful rains of this monsoon on Monday. Rrivulets and streams in Khammam started brimming with capacity. Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts started receiving heavy rain since Sunday morning and normal life was disrupted with many low-lying areas in Khammam and other places inundated with rain water.
According to district officials, about 130 mm rainfall was recorded in Khammam and 188 mm in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
In Khammam town, rain water entered into houses and shops in Vinod talkies centre, pumping well road, bus stand, TNGOs colony and Raparthinagar area.
Coal production was also affected in Yellandu, Manugur, Kothagudem and Sattupalli coal mines. Not only the open cast mines, the production in under mines too was low due to poor attendance of employees.
Cotton and other crops were affected while transportation has been cut off to four villages at Anantharam village in Aswaraopet mandal as pedavagu is overflowing on to the road.
Similarly, eight villages near Gowraram in Dummugudem were also cut off from rest of the district with the Gunnalamangi vagu overflowing on the road. Meanwhile, rains brought some hope in Nizamabad district, with farmers taking up sowing activities. The district did not receive good rains so far.
