Modou Barrow remains in the United Stated with Swansea City after the club chose not to accept an offer from Championship side Reading.

A move to the Berkshire club had appeared to be on the cards when news of the bid, reported to be in the region of £1.25million, broke on Thursday, a matter of hours after Barrow had been an unused substitute in Swansea's pre-season win over Richmond Kickers.

However, Swansea sources insist the player's lack of match action was not related to a potential transfer and that the 24-year-old will remain with the touring party ahead of the final game in North Carolina with no deal agreed for a Liberty Stadium exit.

Barrow first joined the Swans in the summer of 2014, sealing a £1.5million move from Swedish side FK Ostersunds.

He made several lively cameo appearances during his maiden campaign, notably on his debut in the thrilling come-from-behind win over Arsenal where he won the free-kick from which Gylfi Sigurdsson put the Swans back on level terms before going on to win 2-1.

At the start of last season he had become a first-choice wide option under Francesco Guidolin, but he gradually fell down the pecking order under Bob Bradley and Paul Clement.

He was allowed to leave on loan to join Leeds in January, but he made no impact at Elland Road as the Yorkshire club came up just short in their bid to reach the Championship play-off places.

Barrow got some valuable game time under his belt in the games against Barnet and Philadelphia Union, but was the odd man out when Clement opted to change his entire team during the second half of the Richmond game.

It is understood Swansea are prepared to move Barrow on, but they want to at least recoup their initial outlay from three years ago.

And, while Reading are the first side to make a firm offer for his services, it is understood a deal has yet to be agreed although an improved offer could be enough to see Barrow move to the Madejski Stadium.

Barrow has got two years remaining on the Swansea City contract extension he penned last summer.

In terms of incomings, the Swans have been linked with moves for West Brom's Nacer Chadli and Huddersfield's Philip Billing.
