Pakistan has large coal mines. A large number of people are engaged in mining activities that are being carried out in Sindh and Balochistan. These underprivileged workers are poor and uneducated. They do not have any other option, but to work in these mines. The working conditions in these mines are harsh. These workers face health risks. The air that they inhale is of bad quality, leading to the risk of lung cancer. Poverty and unemployment have led them to live a miserable life.
Every year at least four to five people die while working. The mine industry has become one of the dangerous industries with regard to work safety. Although laws have been introduced to ensure optimum level of safety in mine fields, many minors still suffer from different health problems. The higher authorities must take the notice of this industry. Proper planning should be carried out to ensure the safety of workers.
