ELURU: Holding them responsible for the death of 32 cows at Prakasaraopalem in Nallajerla mandal, Endowments Minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao on Sunday directed District Collector K Bhaskar and SP M Ravi Prakash to take stringent action against the Sub-Inspectors of Devarapalli and Ananthapalli police stations.

The Minister said Goshala organisers Kondreddy Srinivas and Raghavendra were abused and beaten up by the SIs on the issue of providing shelter to cows. He visited the government hospital at  Tadepalligudem where Srinivas and Raghavendra are undergoing treatment, and consoled them.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said Srinivas handed over the bovine-laden trucks that came from Visakhapatnam to Devarapalli and Ananthapalli police. However, the SIs sent the trucks to Kakinada without registering any case. When the Goshala in Kakinada refused to take the cows due to lack of place, the trucks were brought back to Devarapalli.

As many as 32 cows died due to lack of fodder and water during the journey which took 36 hours. The police did not hand over the cows to the Goshala even Srinivas asked them for it, he said. Earlier, the minister directed the RDO of Kovvur to file a case after examining the postmortem report of bovines.

‘SPCA not responsible for bovine deaths’

Kakinada: Members of the disbanded committee of the Pithapuram Maharaja Society for the Prevention of Cruelty towards Animals (SPCA) claimed that they were not responsible for the death of bovines in Goshala. Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, SPCA former secretary Guru Prasad blamed the lower rung staff of Goshala for the death of cows. He said the employees’ negligence in providing timely feed to cows could be the reason for the death of bovines.  He said they would meet the district officials on Monday to explain their stand
