Charleston County School District board of trustees member Kevin Hollinshead was booked into the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center Thursday afternoon.

A release provided by Maj. Eric Watson with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office states Hollinshead turned himself in to authorities after learning of warrants for his arrest.

Arrest warrants provided by the sheriff's office state Hollinshead is accused of writing more than $300 worth of bad checks in 2016.

The documents state the first incident happened in June 2016 when Hollinshead wrote a $95 check to Pro Tech. Hollinshead is accused of writing another bad check in September 2016 to Marvin's Meat in the amount of $240.

He's facing two charges of drawing fraudulent checks. Jail records indicated he was booked at 1 p.m. and bonded out before 3:30 p.m.

Hollinshead has been outspoken about a recent issue on the CCSD board involving the salaries of board members. He and other others argue those on the board are underpaid. The district is currently facing a lawsuit after board members voted to give themselves raises. Hollinshead was one of five who voted in favor of the increase.

We spoke to him off camera Thursday evening, and he said he didn't know about the checks. He said he was at the sheriff's office to visit friends, signed in and they notified him that he had warrants out for his arrest.

Hollinshead also said he had overdraft protection on his account and never received notification from his bank alerting him of an issue.
