LUCKNOW: The Special Task Force (STF) of UP police on Wednesday evening nabbed two criminals who were transporting a major
haul of firearms from west UP to their
hideout in Sitapur. Arrested by the Bareillly unit of STF, they were carrying 92 countrymade guns. The seizure could be one of the biggest hauls in the recent past. The guns had been manufactured in
Mahamaya Nagar (Hathras) last month. The operation which went on till late Wednesday night was conducted at Sikandara Rau area of
Hathras.
While the kingpin of the gang was yet to be arrested, police team managed to intercept a
Tata Indica car which was being used by two gunrunners, Mullu Maurya and Jageer Khan. Native of Hargaon locality in Sitapur, the duo have been booked by police in the past for smuggling firearms.
Additional superintendent of STF’s Bareilly unit, Alok Priyadarshi, who supervised the entire operation said, “The main supplier and manufacturer of firearms is Sahib Singh, a native of Sikandra Rau area. We laid a trap after being tipped off by an informer.” sThe STF is now looking for the unit where firearms were manufactured and the vehicle used to transport the haul.
Meanwhile, Maurya and Khan told police that they paid Rs 800 to Sahib for a piece and sold the tamancha for Rs 5,000. Police said that Sahib had been in the business for three to four years dominating Hathras, while his associates were active in Aligarh, Kasganj and Etah districts.
