Raichur boy hurts back, rushed to B’luru hospital
Bengaluru: Twelve-year-old Satyabodhananda (name changed) lies confined to a bed in BGS Global Hospitals near Uttarahalli, west Bengaluru. The Class VII student would have been otherwise attending his class and frolicking with his friends in his hostel but for an injury that left his spinal cord damaged. The cause for the injury is not yet known.
The student of Raichur’s RACE Concept School was brought to the Benglauru hospital by his father, a resident of Kyadigeri village in Devadurga taluk, on Saturday after doctors there said they cannot treat him as his spinal cord had been severely damaged and that it needed treatment at a super specialty hospital.

“We booked a private car and reached here on Saturday night,” said his father. According to him, BGS hospital doctors will decide on the line of treatment after test reports reach them on Monday.
On the evening of August 2, the boy had called his father frantically from the mobile phone of a parent visiting his hostel. “I’m suffering a lot papa. Please come soon,” he told his father, following which he rushed to the hostel. “My son told me that he sustained an injury on July 28 and began experiencing severe pain in the back next day onwards. The hostel warden took him to a doctor. “The doctor administered injections but in vain. At last, my son contacted me,” he said.
Kengeri police have sent a medico-legal case note to Raichur’s Yeragera police under the jurisdiction of which the school and its hostel fall. Raichur SP Nisha James said Yeragera police were yet to receive any note from Bengaluru police.
“It’s an unfortunate incident. We came to know about this only on August 2 when one of our staff members observed that the boy faced difficulty in walking. When he asked the boy, he said he has some pain in the back. He was otherwise normal and attended quarter exam on July 29 and also took part in trekking on July 30. He was alright, like other children, till July 31 and August 1. He is our child. We have assured his parents of all support including medical expenses and study aid. We will ensure such incidents don’t happen in our school again,” said N Chandra Mohan Reddy, executive director, RACE Group of Schools.
