ROURKELA: The Sundargarh administration has sounded alert after the health administration reported that two persons of the district tested positive for swine flu at Bhubaneswar.Sundargarh ADMO (Public Health) Dr SP Padhi said one patient each from Rourkela and Rajgangpur tested positive for swine flu at Bhubaneswar. He said they had acquired the H1N1 virus elsewhere. Health officials have started daily surveillance and over a week, 5,000 patients with Influenza Like Infection (ILI) symptoms were screened but none of them tested positive for swine flu.

Isolation wards with three to five beds have been set up at the Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital (SDHH), Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) and Bonai Sub-Divisional Hospital, while the area hospitals at Rajgangpur and Birmitrapur along with 20 CHCs have been directed to set up two-bed isolation ward each. Private hospitals have also been sensitised on handling of possible swine flu cases.

The ADMO said fluctuation in temperature and high atmospheric moisture provide ideal condition for spread of H1N1 virus and the surveillance would continue till January. He said symptoms include cough, fever, sore throat, running nose, shortness of breathing and body and head ache. In extreme cases of C category, the patient also feels chill, fatigue, severe chest pain and respiratory disorder resembling severe pneumonic symptoms which require swab sample testing for confirmation, Dr Padhi said. Sundargarh Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr SB Naik said awareness programmes on swine flu are underway. For acute swine flu patient, respiratory facility is a must and only the RSP-run Ispat General Hospital in the district has this facility.
