An IAS officer Mukesh Kumar Pandey, posted in Bihar, reportedly committed suicide at Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) on Thursday night. His body was found near the railway tracks at Ghaziabad junction.

Though the reason behind the suicide is being ascertained, the police are looking into all the angles behind the death of a young IAS officer, who was posted as district magistrate (DM) of Buxar in Bihar on July 31. This was his first stint as DM.

A resident of Guwahati in Assam, Pandey was a 2012-batch IAS officer and ranked 14th when he cleared the UPSC examinations five years back. Posted as sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Balia of Begusarai district in Bihar, Pandey later took charge as Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) in Katihar.

He was transferred as DM of Buxar barely ten days back. Staying in the Circuit House of Buxar, he was shifting his family when all of a sudden he went to New Delhi and stayed in a posh hotel at Chanakyapuri.

Before committing suicide, Pandey, who is a son-in-law of a Patna-based automobile showroom owner, sent a WhatsApp message to his friend informing him that he had left a suicide note in his bag in the Room No 742 of the hotel. Before committing suicide, Pandey is believed to have informed his friend that he was fed up with life. “I am sorry. Love you all.” was his last message.

As the acquaintance hurriedly informed the Delhi Police, the cops reached the hotel only to find that the IAS officer had already left the place. Late on Thursday night, his body was found near railway tracks at Ghaziabad.

Bihar DGP PK Thakur confirmed the news after talking to his counterpart in UP. The deceased’s father Dr Siddheshwar Pandey and mother Gita Pandey, who stay at Anand Nagar in Guwahati, have been informed about the incident.
