Suresh Prabhu flags off extension of express train to Sambalpur

Railway minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday flagged off extension of Rourkela-Jammu Tawi express to Sambalpur through videoconferencing from Rail Bhawan in New Delhi.

BHUBANESWAR: Railway minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday flagged off extension of Rourkela-Jammu Tawi Express to Sambalpur through videoconferencing from Rail Bhawan in New Delhi.
Now this train will originate from Sambalpur and reach Jammu Tawi on its third day of journey via Rourkela, Ranchi, Allahabad, Kanpur, Amritsar and Delhi.
On the inaugural run, the train left as a special train from Sambalpur station towards Jammu Tawi at about 11.30 am.
However, the regular service in the extended portion will be commenced from Sunday.
Lok Sabha members like Nagendra Kumar Pradhan and Prabhas Kumar Singh and MLAs-Raseswari Panigrahi and Rabinarayan Naik-were present at Sambalpur station during the flag-off ceremony.
It was a long-standing demand of Sambalpur residents to run a direct train to Allahabad. Several people from western Odisha very often visit Allahabad to conduct religious rituals at the bank of river Ganga.
“We are happy that people will get a direct train to Allahabad. We will also try to take up other issues related to passenger amenities with the Railway Ministry and the East Coast Railway (ECoR),” said Nagendra Kumar Pradhan, Sambalpur MP.

The railway has also decided to run the Rajdhani Express via Sambalpur very soon. Minister of state for railways Rajen Gohain while answering a question in Parliament on August 2 had told the house that the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express will run via Sambalpur City. But the exact date is not declared yet.
Prabhu also launched free Wi-Fi services at Palasa and Srikakulam station and inaugurated passenger’s waiting room and dormitories at Parvatipuram station in Andhra Pradesh under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) jurisdiction. Local MLA Gouthu Syam Sunder Sivaji was present at the station.
