PALAKKAD: Defying an order by the district administration, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday unfurled the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations at a private school in Kerala's Palakkad
As per the district collector P Marykuttty's direction, only the headmaster of the school is allowed to hoist the tricolor.
BJP district president E Krishnadas said that the headmaster received the collector’s order at 11.30pm yesterday.

"The Flag Code of India section (II) says that the headmaster, the pupil leader and the person unfurling the flag (other than headmaster) will stand three paces behind the flag-staff. This means that apart from the headmaster and pupil leader, others can also unfurl the tri-color," Krishnadas said.
He also condemned the fact that the district administration served a notice at the last moment even though the programme was planned months in advance.
He alleged that the district administration "stooped so low to serve the political interest of the CPM government".
