Netaji's bust desecrated at Birbhum

Subhash Chandra Bose's bust desecrated at Birbhum
KOLKATA: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's bust at a village in Khairasole area of Birbhum was desecrated by tar on the early hours of Independence Day when it was planned for inauguration. The incident created tension in the area, as it happened on I-Day.
Police said that they are looking for the local miscreants who might have been involved in it. Netaji scholar Purabi Basu condemned the desecration.
She demanded immediate punishment of the culprits.
The local administration had set up the bust at a cost of Rs 1. 25 lakh and had planned to inaugurate it on Tuesday as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Some people put tar on the white bust of Netaji. Bengal government has asked the DM for a probe.
Earlier in the 70s, Bengal witnessed such act of desecration by Naxalites, so if any ultra left group is involved that is also being probed.
It might be recalled that the Communists too had derided Netaji as Tojo's dog, as he had defied the Communist call for support to the British during World War II. However, later the Communists had admitted it to be a grave mistake to show dishonour to the INA hero.
