HYDERABAD: There is a 'Modi Bhakt' in TRS MP D Srinivas' house. The senior TRS leader's younger son Dharmapuri Arvind is veering towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“If I were to join politics, I would be the third generation in the family to do it,“ Arvind told TOI. While it is a fact that under his father, who was Congress president in undivided AP, the party had come to power both in the 2004 and 2009 assembly elections, Srinivas is now in the TRS.
Arvind's grandfather Dharmapuri Venkat Rao was Dharmapuri Venkat Rao was aJan Sangh leader in Nizamabad.
In his formative years, he saw politicians like Bandaru Dattatreya visit him.
Asked if he was planning to contest the 2019 polls, Arvind said that the decision would be taken by the party he joins. His cryptic reply about whether he is taking a plunge into politics is, “ At the moment, I can neither confirm nor deny it.“
Apparently not bothered about comments over his possibility of joining the BJP , Arvind said, “I will definitely seek my father's blessings. I am sure he will respect my decision as much as I respect his decision to be in the party of his choice“. An ex-Ranji cricketer, Ar vind had play ed under Az haruddin's captaincy . La ter, he got into construction business and is now into real estate. “I have always been independentminded and have learnt the hard way . Though my father is in politics, I worked as a supervisor in a construction firm for a small salary,“ he said.
Arvind created a flutter with huge advertisements on some newspapers praising PM Modi. He said that though his admiration for Modi had come out openly now, the fact was that since 2003-04, he had developed great respect for him. “I used to send him birthday wishes and he responded in writing at times,“ Arvind said. He, however, has not met Modi. “ As a patriotic citizen of India, I wholeheartedly support NaMo because I believe strengthening him is serving my nation,“ he said in an advertisement. He does not consider it dif ficult to swim into politics. He explained that he was closely associated with his father D Srinivas during the 2004 assembly elections.
