Bihar floods: Many Khagaria villages face inundation threat
KHAGARIA: Several villages falling under riverine areas of the district are facing inundation threat. The swollen Kosi, Bagmati, Ganga and Kamla Balan have already entered low lying areas in a number of villages under Alouli, Beldaur, Chautham, Gogri and Parbatta blocks disrupting road communication and damaging standing crops.
According to sources, the overflowing Ganga inundated fresh areas of Emadpur, Bindtoli, Katghara and Bhuriya villages under Gogri block damaging standing maize crops on Thursday.

“People in these marooned villages are now forced to spend their days without proper food. Our standing crops have been damaged, yet we cannot migrate to other place as we have our roots here," said a marginal farmer of Emadpur village Kapildeo Singh.
Sources said with flood waters from the Kosi entering a number of houses of Telihar panchayat under Beldaur block, at least 50 families have taken shelter on Telihar-Terasi embankment. The swollen Bagmati and Kosi also flooded Saraswa, Rohiyar, Bangalia, Thutthi, Mohanpur, Maijni, Sonebers and Bornai panchayats under Chauthm block.
Residents of the northern part of Khagaria town are apprehensive as the swollen Bagmati and Kamla Balan rivers are posing a threat to Badla-Nagarpara embankment near Kamathan in Echarua and Purba Ghat in Hathwan panchayats under Alouli block. Sources in the district administration, however, said all the embankments are safe.
Meanwhile, DM Jai Singh, who visited the embankments along with the officials of flood control division on Thursday, directed the officials to keep a strict vigil on the embankments.
