It is believed that the perpetrators sexually assaulted Dilshath and when Ashmath Beevi tried to protect her, they killed her.

"This is the second that such an incident has occurred in Pakkiripalayam. Last week an 8-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and her grandmother who attempted to protect her was brutally assaulted. Both are seriously injured and are battling for life," said a resident of the area.

Unhappy with the incident and claiming it to be the failure of the police force to protect, the public staged a road roko on Bengaluru-Thiruvannamalai Highway.
