Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir said his side was ready to remove regulations that pose a hindrance to the success of research results.

"Regulations must adapt to developments or growth in innovations," he noted here on Saturday.

According to Nasir, regulations need to be streamlined to ensure development in innovation and industry in Indonesia.

Similar to the Gesits electric motorcycle production agreement inked between Wika Industri & Konstruksi, Garansindo, and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Surabaya, Nasir expressed hope that the existing agreement would not only reach the signing stage but would also continue to realize the development of the industry and the marketing of products in the community.

He stated the ministry was ready to support the realization of research results to be transformed into industrial products by slashing regulations that were deemed unfavorable.

He asserted that the existing regulations should not hinder existing innovations.

On Friday, accompanied by Director General of Innovation Strengthening of the ministry Jumain Appe, Nasir witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement by Wika Industri & Konstruksi, Garansindo, and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Surabaya for the production of Gesits electric motorcycles at the Wika Industrial Area on Narogong Street KM 26 Cileungsi, Bogor, West Java Province.

Chief Executive Officer of the Garansindo Group Muhammad Al Abdullah said his side chose Wika as a partner based on its ability to produce vehicle components that have been tested and widely used by automotive manufacturers. Moreover, the company has been trusted to produce some components of Japanese motor manufacturers.

He said the electric motorcycle, which was developed based on the results of research and development conducted by the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Surabaya, will be produced by late 2017 or early 2018 and sold at a price of below Rp20 million per unit.

"We do not want Gesits (electric motorcycle) to only remain a concept. It is time for Indonesia to demonstrate its capability and independence in the field of designing vehicle technology, especially two wheelers, which are currently the backbone of the economy of most Indonesian people," he pointed out.

As the result of the hard work and efforts put in by the nations children, Gesits had cleared the 1,200-kilometer (km)-long road test from Jakarta to Bali in November 2016. The motorcycle is an electric-powered automatic scooter, with a motor power of five kilowatts and can travel a distance of 80-100 km in a single charge.

The motorcycle can reach a speed of 100 km per hour, with a battery charging time of 1.5 to three hours. In the initial stage, as many as 50 thousand units of Gesits are planned to be produced every year, and later it will be increased to 100 thousand units annually.

With the signing of the production agreement, the production of Gesits will be supported by Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Surabaya that conducted the research and development of technology; PT Wika, a state-owned company that will produce the vehicles; and Garansindo that will market the product.
