Berlin: Qatar Solar Technologies has acquired 49 per cent of SolarWorld Industries, Germany's largest solar energy producer.

This came during a press conference held today in Berlin, in the presence of Qatar's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Solar Technologies Dr. Khaled Al Hajri, and CEO of SolarWorld Industries in Germany Dr. Frank Asbeck.

During the press conference, Sheikh Saud expressed Qatar's confidence in the German economy and the phrase "Made in Germany", stressing Qatar's determination to continue investing in various sectors of the German economy. "Germany is a strategic partner of the State of Qatar at all levels," he said.

For his part, Dr. Khalid Al Hajri said that the solar sector is one of the most important sectors of interest to Qatar and is part of its national vision 2030.

Dr. Asbeck said that SolarWorld needs the Qatari partner, which provides the raw materials for production, adding that it will transfer the technological expertise needed to produce solar energy.
