KURNOOL: On the eve of the by-election, the entire Nandyal Assembly constituency has been brought under heavy security blanket with the deployment of over 3,500 police personnel. It is not a just physical presence of the police personnel that will act as a deterrent force, even technology is being used to keep a tight vigil on the happenings across the constituency, more so near the polling stations. Drone cameras, bomb disposal and access control teams equipped with door-frame and hand-held metal detectors, deep search mine detectors and explosive vapour detectors are being utilised in Nandyal, which is considered a sensitive and volatile place. All the security personnel deployed in Nandyal have been briefed of the situation, possible place where violence might erupt and sensitive pockets.
CCTV cameras have been setup at the polling stations and the entire proceeding in and around the polling stations will be webcast live. Kurnool District Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jatti on Tuesday conducted a trial shoot with help of drone’s cameras at Ayyaluru village and some of polling centres. Later, Jatti accompanied by Visakhapatnam Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma visited Ponnapuram village and inspected the security arrangements at polling centres.
Jatti said that drones were brought into service to strengthen the security and to monitor untoward incidents during the by-election. A trial run of the drone cameras was also conducted, he said.
“In addition to the drone cameras, around 259 body worn cameras and 600 CCTV camerare also being used for the smooth conduct of the by-election,” he explained.
