Hyderabad: A case was on Wednesday registered against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for violating model code of conduct during a campaign in Nandyal. The YSR Congress chief had made inflammatory remark against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The case has been registered against Reddy under Sections 188, 504, 506 and under Public Representation Act for violating model code of conduct ahead of the bypoll in Nandyal.
The Election Commission (EC) had earlier on Wednesday asked the Chief Electoral Officer of the state poll body to take immediate action against Reddy and suggested that an FIR may also be filed against him.
The EC had said Reddy's comment violated the model code of conduct. Using abusive and provocative language, which has the effect of inciting violence during election speech, amounts to violation of model code of conduct, it said.
The poll body also stated that Reddy's statement against the chief minister was a fit case for reprimanding. It said it has noted inflammatory tone and tenor of statements of Reddy.
During campaigning for Nandyal bypoll on August 3, Jagan had said, “There is nothing wrong if Chandrababu Naidu is shot dead on the road for not fulfilling election promises”.
