DATIA: An accused in a case related to the murder of a former BJP corporator was shot dead and two others were injured as assailants riding in cars opened fire on them in Kalapuram area here today afternoon.

Mukesh Kushwaha (30) and his two associates were on their way to the court for a hearing of the case in connection with former BJP corporator Balkrishna Kushwaha's murder when the incident took place, said Dhawal Singh Chouhan, Kotwali police station in-charge.

Mukesh was one of the accused in the case, he said.

"The assailants who came in two cars opened

indiscriminate fire on Mukesh and his friends who were on two motorcycles. Mukesh died on the spot, while Ajay Ahirwar and Mulu Kushwaha were injured," Chouhan said.

Mukesh's family members named some of the persons whom they suspected to be involved in the attack, he said.

Balkrishna Kushwaha was murdered last year. Mukesh, one of the accused in the case, had come out of jail on bail only a fortnight ago, Chouhan said.

"Police recovered about a dozen empty cartridges from the spot. We will soon arrest the assailants," the officer added.
