Last Updated 28 August 2017, 06:28 IST
Telugu Desam Party candidate Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy is leading over his nearest rival Shilpa Mohan Reddy of YSR Congress by the end of eighth round. The counting has been taking place in Nandyal town in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.

As per reports from Nandyala, TDP secured 46,563 votes, YSRCP 29,129 votes and Congress got 372 votes. The trends showed a clear cut trend towards a TDP victory with 11 rounds more left for counting. While first to fifth rounds were pertaining to Nandyal Rural,  6 to 16 belong to Nandyala urban said to be a strong hold of TDP and 17 to 19 rounds will be of Gospadu mandal.

“This is a clear vote for Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s development agenda and a big no for Jagan mark of politics,” said K Achennaidu, a minister in Naidu’s cabinet in Amaravati. TDP party cadre already began celebrating in Nandyal and also in Amaravati by firing crackers.

Nandyal recorded over 80 % votes with large number of women and the old exercising their franchise. The by poll was necessitated because of the sudden death of sitting MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy. Nagi Reddy won the seat on YSRC Party ticket but changed his loyalty to TDP on 2016.  Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy, of TDP, and Silpa Chandra Mohan Reddy of YSRCP are the main contenders.
