The Nandyal byelection result had its impact on the ‘Navaratnalu Sabha’ conducted by the YSR Congress Party here on Monday as there was a pall of gloom all around. The usual cheer associated with the party events was conspicuous by its absence.
YSRCP general secretary and official spokesperson Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, who presided over the meeting, tried to downplay Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy’s victory over Silpa Mohan Reddy by accusing the TDP of showering sops, threatening voters of a cut in facilities and, misusing government machinery.
The entire Cabinet stayed put in the constituency for a week and showered sops worth ₹1,200 crore, he alleged. The meeting was meant to highlight the nine poll promises made by YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during the recent plenary meeting. The meeting was also considered a prelude to a mammoth attempt to make potential voters join the ‘YSR family’. It was targeted to take the scheme to 50,000 houses in the constituency. Around 1,500 booth committee members of Tirupati Assembly constituency attended the meeting. But the interaction was lackadaisical.
