PATNA: Fun, music and dance marked the 71st foundation day celebration of Magadh Mahila College on Wednesday. Education minister Krishnandan Prasad Verma inaugurated the programme attended by Patna University vice-chancellor Prof Ras Bihari Prasad Singh and college principal Dharmsheela Prasad.
The college choir welcomed the guests followed by a dance performance on Ganesh Vandana.
While highlighting the financial problems being faced by the college, its principal said the payment of electricity bill has been due for the last two years.
“The infrastructural development work and other activities in the college have been stopped because of funds crunch,” she said.
“Since the state government has a policy to provide free education to girls up to postgraduation level, it has become almost impossible to properly run the college without funds,” the principal said. She also claimed that the college was facing severe faculty crunch and appointing someone on ad hoc basis means bearing more expense.
The college principal also said she is working hard for the infrastructural development of the college as the peer team of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is to visit its premises this year.
The minister assured the college administration that the department would try to resolve the college problems and convey its concerns to the state government. He also motivated the students to achieve success in their respective fields.
Verma said the state government always focused on women empowerment and announced numerous policies, including free education and 50% reservation for women.

Addressing the students, PU VC said, “Women education is very important for the growth and development of the country as well as state. The college students, principal and faculty members have taken the college to new heights. I hope the college will continue to inspire young minds and nurture them in such a way that they become future leaders of not just our country but the world. The college teaches girls to assume leadership role, become critical thinkers and concerned citizens. Students of this college have proved their potential in the academics and other activities.”
The students also performed Garba dance and a skit on ‘women empowerment’. A series of cultural events were organized on the occasion.
