Pillion driver dies after Army truck hits bike near Delhi's Chanakyapuri
NEW DELHI: A 37-year-old man on a bike was crushed under an Army truck near Chanakyapuri area on Wednesday morning.
Police have arrested the driver who is posted with the 7 Assam Regiment. They said that the deceased and his friend were near Assam Bhawan when they were hit by the truck leading to the pillion rider’s death on the spot.
A senior police officer said that a PCR call was received reporting the accident in Chanakyapuri area.
When a police team reached the spot, they found a severed body lying near the tyre of the truck. The deceased, Naushad Aminuddin, a resident of Jamia Nagar, worked as a carpenter at a factory near his house.
Eyewitness said when the two men, Aminuddin and his friend Mohammad Aarif, a resident of Seelampur reached Kautilya Marg, an Army truck coming from behind hit their bike. While Aarif, who was riding the bike, was thrown metres away, Aminuddin came under the truck’s wheel and died, said a senior police officer.
“We were working around 11am, when we heard someone calling out for help. When we went out to see what had happened, we saw a man lying severed near the rear tyre of the truck,” said Kishore, an employee of an office nearby.
A crime and forensics team also reached the spot. Police said Aminuddin’s body was was sent for a postmortem. Aarif, who sustained minor injuries, was rushed to a hospital nearby.
Deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi), BK Singh, said that a case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence was registered and the truck driver, I Shikato Sema, was arrested.
Police are also checking the CCTV footage of the incident to establish the sequence of events.
