Organising a bhandara? Pay LMC for clean-up post event
LUCKNOW: Under the revised fees for door-to-door collection of garbage by LMC, those organising bhandaras, langars and water stalls on streets during festivals and religious occasions will also have to pay for garbage disposal.
As per the new tariffs, while those distributing only water and water-based beverages will have to pay Rs 50 for a day , the amount ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 200 for those distributing sweets and meals, respectively.
It will be applicable to all the communities.
The LMC will issue a public notice asking organizers to pay the disposal fee before organizing such events. The fee will have to be paid to door-to-door collection workers. The sanita ry workers of Ecogreens will be given the responsibility to keep an account.
Additional Municipal Commissioner PK Srivastava said, “The money collected will be utilised to clean up the mess. Also, it will act as a deterrent for public against excessive generation of waste.“
The proposal, however, has evoked mixed reaction. “It's a good move as it would make people realise their duty to keep the city clean. Money being charged is also nominal, “ said Jaspreet Singh.
However, Chowk trader Dheeraj Kumar said, “Bhandaras and langars are held for religious as well as charitable cause and it is the municipal corporation's duty to take care of sanitation using their resources.“
