VARANASI: After recent train tragedies, a major flaw in train operation was witnessed in Ballia district on Thursday when the Chhapra-Varanasi Intercity Express was sent on the wrong route from Fefna station. The station master of Fefna railway station has been suspended by the DRM Varanasi of NER on charge of laxity.
According to reports, the train, which was to move towards Ghazipur from Fefna railway station, took a wrong route and moved towards Mau due to wrong signal.
A chaos and commotion prevailed among the passengers on board when they saw the train moving in wrong direction. Realising the fault the driver stopped the train at some distance and brought back to Fefna station. After a delay of about half-an-hour the train moved to its next destination on Ghazipur route.
The NER Varanasi spokesperson Ashok Kumar told TOI that taking note of it, the DRM Varanasi SK Jha suspended Fefna station master VS Pandey and ordered a probe into the matter.
It was another major flaw in train operation after recent derailment of Kaifiyat Express and Duronto Express trains, and detachment of bogies of the Dehradoon-bound 13009 Doon Express from the engine.
On August 30 the boggies of Doon Express got detached from the enginie and kept moving for some distance near Khetasarai railway station in Jaunpur district. There was panic among the passengers as the bogies kept moving without the engine due to momentum. The train was delayed for nearly 1:30 hours and a departmental enquiry has been ordered into the incident.
