Madhepura villagers damage SDM’s vehicle
MADHEPURA: Irate villagers of Haripurkala under the Murliganj police station area went on the rampage on Monday and damaged the official SUV of Madhepura SDM Sanjay Kumar Nirala when he reached there on getting information that a large number of carcasses were found floating in an irrigation canal.
The SDM, accompanied by ASP Rajesh Kumar and inspector Manish Kumar along with the police force, rushed to the spot where the villagers had turned violent.
Police sources said the villagers suspected that the dead cattle were ferried by some smugglers. The carcasses were to be taken to Kishanganj, they believed.
“As soon as the SDM and other officials reached the spot, irate mob went on the rampage and damaged his vehicle before pushing it into the nearby river close to the irrigation canal,” said a police source, adding that the villagers were demanding that district magistrate Mohammad Sohail should visit them.
The ASP said police were camping in the village. “The situation is under control and we are trying to find out from where the carcasses reached there and the people responsible for violence,” he said.
