MANGALURU: Gauri Lankesh, who was shot dead in Bengaluru on Tuesday, had three cases, including two defamation cases pending against her in different courts in Dakshina Kannada.
Two defamation cases are filed by Raghaveshwara Bharathi, the seer of Ramachadrapura Mutt against Gauri. Gauri had written about extensively in her weekly Kannada tabloid ‘Gauri Lankesh Patrike' about allegations of sexual harassment against Raghaveshwara Bharati.

The slain journalist was yet to secure bail in one of the defamation cases filed at Belathangady.
“Gauri’s bail application was supposed to be heard on September 1, but due to holiday it got postponed,” her advocate S P Chengappa told TOI.
Another case was filed agianst her by one Deepak pertains to her alleged provocative speech against Hindu Gods in 2012. The complainant alleged Gauri spoke ill about Hinduism. She was booked under IPC Section 153 and 114.
Pre-planned murder: Poojary
Terming the Gauri Lankesh murder as pre-planned, senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe.
Speaking to reporters Poojary blamed the state government for allegedly denying security to Gauri despite threat to her life. “Chief Minister, where is your police department, intelligence? This is a political killing similar to MM Kalaburgi, Narenda Dhabolkar and Govind Pansare. The case should be properly investigated and culprits must be punished,” Poojary stressed.

Protests galore in coastal Karnataka
Several organisations including Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Union staged protests and condemned the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh.
V Kukkyan, district secretary of CPI said that one can kill people who raise voice against communalism, anti-social elements but cannot suppress their ideologies and fights.
Mrinala, city secretary, Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, condemning the attack, blamed that state government of doing nothing to stop such incidents.
Iqbal Bellare, district secretary of Social Democratic Party of India blamed that fascist powers are behind Gauri’s death. He urged the state government to arrest killers as soon as possible.
PUCL vehemently condemns the dastardly murder of our dear friend philosopher. She was courageous, out spoken and a strong critic of people who abuses the Constitution. She was a champion of secularism and outspoken soldier of freedom of press. It is clear that highly organized criminal forces are responsible for her assassination.
