AGRA: A suspicious device with a ticking timer and a circuit board connected with a
small red box shape object was found near a government
inter-college in Farrukhabad, after which entire area was cordon off, triggering
panic among local residents.
The device was spotted at around 5:30 am outside a local lekhpal home, when his mother woke for morning walk and found the device near small platform.
Incident took place near GIC ground of government inter-college in Ismailganj of Nagar
Kotwali police jurisdiction of Farrukhabad district.
After the incident, local police deployed heavy force and cordon of the area.
Speaking to TOI, Ravinder Verma, lekhpal, said, “It was my mother (Urmila Verma), who first spotted the device outside our home. We immediately alerted the neighbours and evacuated the area and dialled 100.”
Anoop Kumar Nigam, station officer of Nagar Kotwali said, “We have sand bags and buckets filled water near the device to control the impact of blast, if it explodes. A bomb disposal unit from Lucknow is on their way to probe the device.”
He said, “The timer on the red box is ‘still’ and not functioning. But we cannot take chances, as this area is densely populated and the device is near school.” Adding further he said, “There is great chance, that this device is nothing more than a fake bomb a part of prank to scare the local residents.”
Earlier too, a similar kind of device was found at Farrukhabad station two –years-back, but after investigation it was found to be a fake bomb.
