Rs50m laundry plant installed at Shahdara hospital

LAHORE :Punjab Minister for Health Khawaja Imran Nazir has said the total capacity of Govt Shahdara Teaching Hospital Project is 300 beds out of which 200 beds have already been made operational while another 100 beds would be made available in the second phase. 

He stated this while inaugurating the newly installed laundry plant and boiler in the hospital which has been established at a cost of Rs 50 million, according to a handout issued on Thursday. Parliamentary Secretary Health Hassan Riaz Chaudhry, Vice-Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof Dr Fakhar Imam, Medical Superintendent Shahdara Hospital Dr Shahid Farooq, MS Mayo Hospital Dr Tahir Khalil, MS Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Dr Sohail Rana, former MS Govt Shahdara Hospital Dr Pervaiz Imtiaz, members of Patients Welfare Society and a large number of doctors, nurses and notables of the area were present. 

MS Dr Shahid Farooq said a state-of-the-art dialysis unit is also part of the hospital where 24 dialysis machines are providing services to the patients. He disclosed that ten thousand gratis dialysis were performed during 2016 and added that the government teaching hospital is providing best healthcare facilities to the people of Shahdara as well as adjoining areas.

In his address, Kh Imran Nazir observed that the services of doctors, nurses and paramedics should be fully appreciated by people and their role in providing healthcare facilities should also be encouraged as they are serving thousands of needy people in government hospitals and lakhs of patients get quality healthcare facilities from these hospitals every year.

However, it is regrettable that only some mishaps were highlighted by a section of society. He said that there is a need to promote culture of responsibility and all of us should fulfill our duties with dedication for strengthening and improving the medical system.

He said more than three thousand patients visit the OPD of the hospital everyday and get free treatment. The minister disclosed that setting up nursing school in Govt Shahdara Hospital is also a part of the scheme.

Parliamentary Secretary Health Hassan Riaz Ch said nowhere in the world are health services available free of cost but it’s the Punjab government which is providing such medical cover totally free.

Meanwhile, a farewell function was also organised in honour of the Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof Dr Fakhar Imam to commemorate the services of Prof Dr Fakhar Imam in Govt Shahdara Hospital. Minister Health Kh Imran Nazir, Parliamentary Secretary Health Hassan Riaz Ch, MS Dr Shahid Farooq and others lauded the services of Prof Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam for the promotion of medical education and health sector’s development. Kh Imran Nazir said Dr Fakhar Imam played a pivotal role in the field of medical education, development of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and completion of various development projects in Shahdara Hospital. The minister presented a shield to the outgoing Prof Sardar Fakhar Imam.
