Residents are being evicted from a hostel due to a cockroach infestation blamed on a female tenant who started breeding the revolting insects in her bedroom fridge.
Hackney Lodge on the outskirts of Adelaide's central business district is on the brink of closing down, with 35 tenants forced out due to the cockroach problem.
The heritage-listed hostel's 91-year-old owner Rudy Bodonyi says major work is needed to make the building inhabitable again.

The insect infestation has been described by local health authorities as the worst they have ever seen, Seven News reported.
Hundreds of the disgusting pests can be seen scurrying around the property, and residents say the problem began when a fellow tenant raised them in her fridge.

Mr Bodonyi has been running the hostel for the past 27 years, but now faces the prospect of having to sell in order to pay for the clean-up.
'The whole building has to be cleared, it's a huge effort, a huge expense,' he said.

Of the evicted residents 26 have been given temporary accommodation with the rest facing an uncertain future.
'Probably some [evicted tenants] sleep in the car, or probably camp in the park, or something like that,' said Peter, who lives in Hackney Lodge.
Residents were given two weeks notice before being asked to leave.
Daily Mail Australia contacted Hackney Lodge for comment.
