Bodies of pilgrims who died in road mishap at Tirunelveli handed over to kin

The bodies of five pilgrims who died in a road mishap at Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu on  Saturday, were brought to Guntur.

GUNTUR: The bodies of five pilgrims who died in a road mishap at Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu on  Saturday, were brought to Guntur on Sunday.  The Kaveri Pushkar pilgrimage of a group of people from Kollur and Tenali mandals ended on a tragic note when a speeding cement-laden lorry mowed them down while were relieving themselves on the roadside at Tirunelveli. K Ratnamanikyam (56), G Nagavardhini (43), D Venkatrama Rao (70) and K Ramaiah (65)  and Mettu Satyam (40) died in the incident. Seven others were injured when the speeding lorry hit the tourist bus.

Kollur mandal tahsildar A Seshagiri Rao and SI M Ashok who went to Tirunelveli, accompanied the bodies and the pilgrims who reached Tenali by train. The bodies were handed over to their family members for the performance of last rites. SI Ashok said the Tirunelveli district authorities extended all cooperation in bringing the bodies of pilgrims to their native place by completing the formalities.
