HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao visited RGUKT Nuzvid IIIT on Tuesday and enquired about the recent attack on juniors by some final year engineering students in which 13 suffered injuries.
The Minister spoke to Vice-Chancellor V. Ramachander Raju, Director Veeranki Venkata Dasu, Administrative Officer Ramakanth and Disciplinary and Anti-Ragging Committee members. He also interacted with the victims and asked about the cause of the incident.
He inspected the classrooms, canteens, dining halls, and dormitories on the campus, and asked the students to focus on academics. Mr. Srinivasa Rao said stringent action would be taken against the seniors who had attacked the juniors. The Minister asked the authorities to work in tandem and create good atmosphere on the campus.
Addressing the media later, he said steps would be taken to appoint permanent staff in the IIITs. The government was taking all measures to prevent ragging in all universities and professional colleges, he said.
“The government will support the Special Committee’s report recommending action against errant students, which has been approved by the Vice-Chancellor. We will take a tough stand against the students who misbehave and resort to teasing in educational institutions,” the Minister said.
