A field of 129 players will complete in this week’s Web.com Tour Championship, at the Atlantic Beach Country Club. They will compete for a total purse of $1 million and a first-place check of $180,000.

The list includes 17 past PGA Tour winners who have combined for 43 titles, led by Stuart Appleby (nine victories), Hunter Mahan (six) and Ben Crane and Jonathan Byrd (five each)

Appleby won the Tournament of Champions three times and Mahan won two World Golf Championships and a FedEx Cup playoff, finishing among the top-20 in FedEx Cup points seven times.

Also in the field is two-time major champion Angel Cabrera, who won the 2007 U.S. Open and the 2009 Masters.

It looks as if the weather won’t be a factor. Last year’s tournament was cancelled due to the approach of Hurricane Matthew.

The Web.com Tour Championship is the culmination of the four-tournament Web.com Finals, which determines 50 players who receive PGA Tour cards for the 2017-2018 season, and their priority status.

The fields are composed of the top-75 on the final Web.com Tour regular-season money list and Nos. 126-200 players on the final PGA Tour FedEx Cup points list who have the option of playing if they have no other eligiblity for the PGA Tour.

Also in the field are 23 of the top-25 players on the Web.com regular-season money list who have already earned their Tour cards. They are competing in the Finals to solidy or improve on their priority status.

The top-25 on the finals money list after conclusion of the Web.com Tour Championship also will earn their cards. That list is led by three winners in Finals events so far, Chesson Hadley, Pete Uihlein and last week’s winners, Nicholas Lindheim. Hadley has tied for second and finished 10 in the other two finals events and has earned $295,000.

On the No. 25 bubble in finals earnings is Cameron Percy with $27,855, $1,025 ahead of Zac Blair.

Area residents Steve Wheatcroft (23rd) and Sam Saunders (24th) are within the top-25 in Finals earnings. Wheatcroft, who tied for 11th last week in Beachwood, Ohio, has $29,025 and Saunders, who tied for 11th in the first Finals event in Columbus, Ohio, has $27,900 — only $45 more than Percy.

Also in the field is regular-season Web.com money leader Brice Garnett ($368,761), No. 2 Sam Ryder ($314,306) and No. 3 Abraham Ancer ($295,528).

The course will open at 7 a.m. on Thursday for the first round. Information can be found by visiting webtourchampionship.com.
