Khandwa's BJP MLA accused of abusing forest officer

INDORE: Khandwa police on Wednesday filed a non-cognizable report (NCR) against BJP MLA Devendra Verma for allegedly using abusive words while addressing a forest officer during a review meeting of developmental works.
Verma, who was chairing the meeting of officials in Khandwa, was accused of threatening conservator of forests SK Singh with beating him up, during a heated discussion.
Singh told the police that the MLA had sought information about saplings planted in a certain area and wished to know why they were dying.
He was informed that funds were not released to secure the plantation area, thus the situation was arising.
“The MLA got infuriated and started throwing abuses at me. He threatened to beat me up with slippers,” Singh told reporters.
Kotwali police station in charge Dileep Puri told TOI that an NCR was lodged against Verma for insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, defamation and threat of injury to public servant.
Verma confirmed that he had a heated discussions with the forest officer, but denied having thrown abuses or used bad words while addressing the government servant.
