Government nod for Kendriya Vidyalaya in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur

District administration asked to start classes from current session

JAGATSINGHPUR: Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan (KVS) on Thursday gave its nod to open a Central School in the district.

In a letter, Joint Commissioner, KVS, New Delhi E Prabhakar has asked the district administration to start Classes I to V from the current academic year. The admission process will be completed within 30 days from the date of issue of the Joint Commissioner’s letter. The classes will begin at Tarikunda High School soon.

Collector Yamini Sarangi said after getting permission from KVS, the district administration has decided to provide necessary facilities for opening the school from this academic session.  As per reports, KVS had proposed to open a Central school at the district headquarters in 2009 and requested the administration to provide required land free of cost. However, despite repeated requests to KVS authorities, no steps were taken to allocate land for the school.

Later, the administration identified a piece of land at Sanpur panchayat in Jagatsinghpur block to set up the school. A team from KVS had visited the proposed site at Sanpur and Tarikunda High School where classes will be conducted on a temporary basis till completion of the new building at Sanpur.

Ravana Podi sans fireworks

Jagatsinghpur: The stand-off between the district administration and activists of Sri Ram Club over the location of Ravana Podi Utsav was resolved after intervention of local MLA Chiranjib Biswal. The administration had decided to shift the Ravana Podi Ustav organised by Sri Ram Club from the Collectorate ground to Nabakrushna Chaudhary Stadium over safety issues. As the ground is surrounded by the Collector’s office, Railway reservation counter, Rural Works office, banks, post office, schools, police station, Government quarters besides private buildings, the administration decided to conduct Ravana Podi at the local stadium to avert any fire mishap. However, organiser of the Club Bishnu Mohanty had strongly opposed this move as the stadium was situated far away from the town. After the intervention of Biswal and Jagatsinghpur Municipality Chiarman Biplab Choudhury, the administration has agreed to continue the Ravana Podi in the Collectorate ground without any firework display.
