Contractors blame government for Bargarh bridge collapse

All Odisha Contractors' Association on Monday blamed the State Government for the Bargarh bridge collapse incident.

BHUBANESWAR: All Odisha Contractors' Association on Monday blamed the State Government for the Bargarh bridge collapse incident.They alleged that the Government was providing about 25 per cent less on a project in the State as compared with the amount spent by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for similar projects. They also claimed that the Government is forcibly reducing 14.99 per cent on the estimate of a particular project provided to them, while the contractors of other states are awarded the same work here with higher estimate and 10 per cent advance money.

Local contractors should be awarded the construction work in the State. And the rates of the construction materials should be revised according to OPWD Code, president of the association Prabhat Das demanded. The members of the association alleged that the rates of the construction materials have not been revised since last three years.
