A woman was trapped in her car after sustaining a neck injury in a crash on the M3 .

The female, who was suffering from neck pain, had to be freed from her vehicle by emergency services.

Fire engines from Camberley , Chertsey and Sunbury were called to the crash at around 8.45am on Wednesday (October 4), Surrey Fire and Rescue said.

Police officers and an ambulance also attended and the woman was subsequently taken to Frimley Park Hospital , according to Surrey Police.

The crash between a van and a car happened at around 8.40 am and prompted police to briefly stop traffic and close three lanes during the morning rush hour.

"Long delays" of up to 60 minutes were expected on the M3 between junction 2 with the M25 and junction 3 with the A322, Highways England tweeted at around 9.40am.

One lane reopened at around 10.30am but traffic was still queuing for up to an hour at 11am.

A Surrey Police spokesman said at around 9.40am: "An ambulance has been called for a female occupant from the car as she is suffering from neck pain.

"Fire and ambulance are also in attendance. Several lanes have been closed while the incident is dealt with."

A Surrey Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "One woman was trapped in her car and has been freed by Surrey Fire and Rescue Services."
