PATNA: Bihar Military Police (BMP) DG Gupteshwar Pandey and principal secretary (disaster management) Pratyaya Amrit were flown to Katihar to help the administration restore normalcy as communal tension prevailed in the town for the third consecutive day on Wednesday.
Reports reaching the state HQ said said the situation was tense with people of two communities pitted against each other since October 2 evening.

The trouble began after a priest allegedly spread a rumour that his temple was attacked by participants of a tazia procession on Muharram day. While several rounds of ding-dong battle were fought between the two groups, police later recovered 100 petrol bombs.
As a precautionary measure, the administration has shut the internet services in the district. One company each of Indo Tibetan Border Police and Sashastra Seema Bal were deployed in the district on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the situation was reported to be volatile in Jamui district even on Wednesday four days after communal violence broke out on September 30 evening during the immersion of Durga idols.
Bhagalpur zonal IG Sushil Mansingh Khopde said at least 56 rioters had been arrested from Jamui till Wednesday morning and 12 FIRs lodged. Additional forces drawn from CRPF, BMP and STF have been deployed and internet services withdrawn in Jamui, the JG said.

In Arwal, five FIRs were lodged and 32 persons arrested till Wednesday for their involvement in communal violence.
Patna zonal IG Nayyar Hasnain Khan said normalcy was fast returning to Arwal. “Additional forces from Patna, Aurangabad and Jehanabad along with central forces have been sent to Arwal,” he said and added internet services in Arwal continued to be snapped on Wednesday.
In Sitamarhi, around 100 rioters were arrested till Wednesday and 10 FIRs lodged in different police stations. SP Hari Prasath S said internet services would remain shut in the district till Thursday midnight.
However, internet services were on Tuesday night restored in Bhojpur where communal violence took place in Piro on September 30.
In Nawada, one FIR each was lodged in Warisaliganj, Kauwakol and Town police stations while four FIRs were lodged in Akbarpur police station. Nawada SP Vikas Burman said internet services would remain withdrawn till Thursday.
In West Champaran, internet services would remain shut till Thursday, DM Nilesh Deore said.
