Fall is in the air as the Morgantown community waits for the doors to open at 207 N. Walnut Street, Morgantown. It is a tradition; The Village Library’s annual Fall Book Sale is a popular draw for the locals with people coming from miles around for this vast selection of popular genres.
“It is the library’s biggest fundraiser of the year. This is one Book Sale you won’t want to miss. There is something for everyone. Opening day draws the biggest crowd,” said Library Vice President, Carol Donahue.
Thursday, Oct. 12 the doors will open at 5 p.m. and people scouting for first dibs on books, magazines, DVDs, CDs audio books, and puzzles will have until 8 p.m. to browse and buy. Then Friday, Oct. 13 it all starts again from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 14 the doors open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the fabulous Bag of Books Sale. Join the steady stream of patrons on the final day. Get a large grocery bag for $5 or a larger bag for $7 and fill those thirsty bags to the top. Stock up on all your favorites and try something new. While you’re at it, pick up some baked goods to go.
“President Lisa Betz along with the full board of trustees including myself; Treasurer, Debbie Phillips; Secretary, Lester Groves; Trustees Jacob Stephens, Heidi Kurtz and Kade Elliot, a Twin Valley High School student and the library’s youngest board member, have been working hard for months planning, collecting and organizing the event,” Donahue explained. “Board members and volunteers will be on hand to help you find what you are looking for and to help box and carry your things to your vehicle. Boy Scout Troop #37 from Elverson will be helping to set up.”
Front and center, Donahue’s children Jacob 15, Sophia 13, and Tabitha, 10, who are all active at the library will be busy selling their homemade book marks, drinks and baked goods.
There is a diverse collection sorted by genre to entertain and educate. One of this year’s treasures is a large donation of education books preschooler through elementary. In the children’s section you will find sections for ages 2 and under, picture books, early readers, chapter books and a section just for teens.
Some of the popular books include both paper and hardback: westerns, mystery, science fiction, history, religious and spiritual, local interest, crafts and cooking, self-help, fiction and non-fiction and the classics.
Come out and meet your Village Library Board members while you shop. Chat and see how you can become a part of the library family. They are seeking people of all ages. Become a new member or a volunteer. Working at the library is a terrific way to meet new people in the community.
