Burglar caught in the act in Kancheepuram, lynched

CHENNAI: A burglar was beaten to death by a mob on Tuesday night after he was caught attempting to break into the farmhouse of a retired CBI officer at Podavur in Kancheepuram. Two other burglars, who accompanied him, escaped after attacking the security guard's wife, leaving her badly injured.
Police said the farmhouse belongs to Ushapriyan.The 68-year-old who resides in Bengaluru appointed Podavur residents Saravanan, 46, and Yamuna, 39, to take care of the house.

On Tuesday evening, Yamuna returned home after cleaning the farmhouse and switching on the lights.Two hours later, she noticed the lights were switched off.She alerted her husband and they found the front door broken open.
As they went inside, three people rushed out of the house and attacked Yamuna. Two of them managed to scale the compound wall and escape, while one fell down. A mob from the village caught the suspect and thrashed him, police sources said.
The Sunguvar Chatram police rushed to the scene and sent the badly injured burglar to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police moved the body to the Sriperumbudur government hospital for autopsy . “The identity of the man is yet to be ascertained.We suspect he was in his early 40s,“ said an officer.
